Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television reporter, commentator and anchor of NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell joined KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in 1967. 1996, she was hired by WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). Then, she became a Washington general correspondent to NBC News two years later. Beginning in 1981 she started reporting from the White House. In 1988, she became chief congressional reporter. Mitchell was named as the head White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell hosted and was an expert panelist on the TV program Meet the Press. She was part of the panel at 1988 Presidential Debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell covered the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, during Ronald Reagan's two terms as president. Mitchell covered a wide range of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran-Contra scandal, fiscal tax reforms, and the arms control. Mitchell traveled with Ronald Reagan many times for summits, and to discuss topics such as and the Iran Contra scandal.
